LaRaza Medical Student Association
A UIUC Chapter of the
National Network of Latin American Medical Students
"La Raza" is a Spanish
phrase directly translated to "the race" but can be understood
inclusively as "the people". These words are instilled
with a sense of ethnic and cultural pride
extending to all Latin American people, or personally between an
individual and their country of
origin. La Raza Medical Student
Association is proud to have the support of members from
all cultural backgrounds who share a
common interest in serving the underserved
and a special interest in Latin American communities, the

to encourage the importance of health maintenance
within the Latin American community, increase awareness of
diabetes through health
screening within the hispanic
population, promote the importance of communication
through translational services, and support Latin American
youth interested in becoming
future physicians.
