MSP Allerton Retreat Recap

The 27th Annual Medical Scholars Program Retreat held at the Robert Allerton House in Monticello, Illinois on Saturday, August 25th-Sunday, August 26th, 2007 was a huge success! We had an outstanding turnout of MSP students and would also like to thank the faculty who joined us.

We enjoyed our student talks and congratulate JP Yu for being awarded the Swartz-Flood Award for the Outstanding Student Research Talk. Likewise, we had a nice showing of MSP Posters and congratulate Samit Shah for being awarded the MSP Best Student Poster Award. We enjoyed our social activities marked by lunch, dinner and a long, afternoon break to hang out and see Allerton Park!

Our keynote speaker was MSP Alumnus, John Chen, MD, PhD, a neuroradiologist at Harvard University's Mass General Hospital. He spoke about molecular imaging from a physician-scientist point of view. To learn more about Dr. Chen, please visit this Web site.  Dr. Lucy Godley discussed the leadership role of physician-scientists earlier in the afternoon.

All in all, it was a great event and we owe much thanks to our incredible student planning committee for their hard work and efforts in coordinating another fantastic retreat.

This year we are making some exciting changes to the schedule. The retreat will include plenty of free time in the afternoon so students can explore the Allerton grounds, socialize with other students, or participate in outdoor activities. Additionally, we have invited Dr. Lucy Godley to discuss the leadership role of physician-scientists and we plan to expand the poster session to encourage greater participation in open scientific discussion. To capture the spirit of the students in our program, we have set up an on-line photo submission site. Please consider submitting photos to be included in our MSP slideshow...an event you won't want to miss.
