Application Guidelines for University of Illinois
2008-2009
The residency program welcomes applications from candidates of all backgrounds. Applications are accepted via ERAS from August 15 to December 1. No paper applications are accepted. It is in the candidate's best interest to apply by mid-October, as interview slots fill up early. A complete application is required prior to application consideration. This consists of a curriculum vitae (CV), 3 letters of recommendation (one must be from the Dean's office of the candidate's medical school or MSPE), personal statement, and Step 1 and Step 2 USMLE/Comlex scores. All candidates must past the Clinical Skills (CS) on first attempt. International candidates must be ECFMG certified by March 1, 2008.
Screening Criteria
All applications are screened. First preference for interviews is given to candidates who meet the following required criteria:
- Scores of 85 and above on both Step 1 & Step 2 on the first attempt
- The University of Illinois's average step score from 2006 was 90.
- Clinical Skills pass on first attempt
- Medical school graduation in past 5 years
- U.S. clinical experience required, e.g. observerships
Visa Sponsorship
