Description

This four-week clerkship requires satisfactory completion of the Medicine 1 Core Clerkship, and will consist of: 

  • 2-4 weeks of general medicine inpatient service, in which students will be given major responsibility for a limited number of general medical patients under the direct supervision of a resident and attending staff. The number of patients will be limited so as to allow the student to assume the total care responsibilities. In hospital night call will be assigned.

  • 0-2 weeks of geriatric and/or palliative care service, in which students become familiar with a variety of end-of-life care issues, the therapeutic use of opiates, geriatric assessment, the physiology of aging, and clinical geriatric care.

  • Up to four 4-hour sessions in the neurology clinic concurrent with ward rotations, or 0-2 weeks of straight neurology clinic, in which students will be exposed to and become familiar with neurologic manifestations of systemic disease, epilepsy and paroxysmal disorders, cerebrovascular disease, neuro degenerative disease and movement disorders, localization of central nervous system diseases.
