PROGRESS REPORTS AND EVALUATION

1.   Clerkship Director Progress Reports

Clerkship Directors will provide students with periodic progress reports, both formal and informal.  This feedback provides students with an on-going review of their progress in completing clerkship requirements, noting student strengths and weaknesses.  Directors may provide this feedback in the following ways:

  1. Arrange formal or informal meetings with clerks for the purposes of teaching, discussion or feedback

  2. Review student logs to assure progress.

  3. Review a comprehensive case presented by the student.

  4. Review and critique required student write-ups.

In addition to on-going Progress Reports, students receive two formal evaluations from Clerkship Directors.

2.   Mid-Clerkship Evaluation

The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign school policy states that the Clerkship Director will be responsible for an oral or written evaluation of student progress with recommendations for improvement.  Students will have a mid-clerkship evaluation either oral or written with the clerkship director.

            3.   End of Clerkship Evaluation

Your clerkship director will discuss your partial clinical grade with you during Week 8 of your clerkship.  The final clinical grade will be a composite of evaluations of attendings and residents compiled by the clerkship directors and will be discussed with you during week 12 of the clerkship.  You should be comfortable in asking your supervisors to critique your performance at any time.

  4.   NBME Subject Exam

All students take the NBME Subject Examination for Medicine towards the end of the 12-week clerkship.  Students will receive notification of the time and location of the test.
