ATTENDANCE POLICY

The Department of Internal Medicine expects and requires daily attendance of all clerkship students.  Absences to attend to academic or professional activities need the prior approval of the Clerkship Director.

All absences due to illness must be reported to the Clerkship Director or Clerkship Coordinator.  In the case of short-term illnesses, the student must notify the Clerkship Director or Coordinator daily of his or her status, including the anticipated date of return. Upon return from an extended illness, the student must meet with the Clerkship Director to determine an appropriate plan to complete clerkship requirements.  In some instances, part or all of the clerkship may need to be repeated.

Any absences that do not relate to attending academic or professional activities or illness are defined as unexcused.  Absences that are unexcused may be considered unprofessional behavior and may adversely affect the final clerkship grade.
