Clerkship Information
The following material outlines the expectations the clinical core clerkships and their respective departments have for students as they train within each core discipline.
First, there is a section that lists the Graduation Competencies. The Graduation Competencies are the fundamental knowledge sets students must possess in order to complete their training toward the MD degree. Please notice that each competency and its subsets are identified by number or letter. This is for reference within the documentation provided by the core clerkships.
Next, you will find the listing of required procedural skills. This list outlines the required clinical skills and designates additional skills that may be required by specific departments such as Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology and Surgery.
The core information is organized by department:

For each department, you will find a table that lists the goals and objectives. These are further refined into performance objectives (or things that the students should be able to do); the evaluation method used to assess these objectives (which are outlined on the top of the first page); and the Graduation Competency each goal is linked to.
Next you will find a Mid-Clerkship Student Evaluation. This is the instrument used to give you feedback on your progress within the core clerkship. You will notice that each area considered is written in terms of the competencies and is lined to the final evaluation instrument used to assess your overall performance in the clerkship.
Finally, you will find the instrument that preceptors within the department will use to evaluate you. Also, you will find the instrument that is sent to Student Affairs that determines your final grade.
